- The volunteers were randomly split into two groups. Half of them were prisoners who were given smocks to wear, and the other half were prison guards and they wore beige uniforms and reflective sunglasses.
- DAY FOUR
- On the second morning, prisoners rebelled by barricading themselves in their cells. Guards forced themselves inside and strip searched the prisoners. The ring leaders were put into solitary confinement.
- DAY FIVE
- The guards became more brutal, with one of them becoming known as 'John Wayne' because of how severe his actions were. One of the prisoners showed severe signs pf anxiety but he was not allowed to live
- DAY SIX
- The environment was escalating and more prisoners were experiencing anxiety, but what is a prison without anyone locked up, so none of them were allowed to leave. they were asked to perform humiliating and mentally harming tasks, but they guards could not physically lay a hand on them.
- Conditions got so bad that the guards were starting to make the prisoners clean the toilets with their hands, and at night when it was believed the prisoners could not see them, the guards sexually humiliated them too
- Zimbardo invited is girlfriend to come and visit the experiment because of how successful he felt it was. After she witnessed what had been going on, she managed to persuade him that what he was doing was wrong. The experiment was meant to last 14 days, instead it finished on day six because of how inhumane it had become.
