  • France Motive
  • The French didn't like their leader, King Louis XVI (couldn't make decisions and left the country in bankruptcy). The French also saw the colonists were successful in their revolt, so they wanted to do the same thing: Gain independence.
  • France Method
  • The French held many assemblies and protests (raids) to try and scare the British. That didn't really work so they had to think of something else. They decided to write a declaration: The Declaration of the RIghts of Man and Citizen.

  • Haiti Motive
  • Many Haitian people (almost everybody) didn't like the fact that they were slaves and they had to work with no pay all day every day. The enslaved people revolted because they wanted equal rights. They also wanted independence from France.

  • General Toussaint led the slaves in the attacks on the farmers and the capturing of GTO. This led to the French surrendering in 1803. The formally enslaved people also had a Constitution ratified that declared independence from the French
  • Haiti Method
  • Haiti Change
  • The Haitians gained independence from the French and the slavery ended in Haiti. This also ended the French overseas rule.
