- Persephone was the daughter of Demeter. Demeter is the goddess of harvest. Persephone was admired known for her beauty. Demeter cared greatly for her daughter.
- When Persephone was out with her mother, she decided to pick flowers.

- Then, upon seeing Persephone, Hades, the god of the underworld, fell in love. Hades made the decision that she would be the Queen of his Underworld.
- Hades brought Persephone to the underworld and made her his queen while Demeter was away.

- Why are you doing this!
- Bring my daugther!
- Demeter weped greatly. Because of this, all the crops in the land died. Zeus knew this couldn't continue and asked her to stop it, but she said that she wouldn't until she got her daughter back

- Stop!
- Finally, Zeus gave in and formed a contract with Hades. For 2 periods of the year (summer and spring) did Persephone go with her mother, and for 2 periods of the year (winter and fall) did she go down with Hades.
- This is why crops prosper in summer and spring, and die in winter and fall. That is how the seasons came to be.
