- I must find a plant to eat because I'm hungry.
- Oh no! Glutamate alert, I must take immediate action to preserve the remainder of my life. To save my neighbours, do action to dissolve chemicals!

- I want to thank glutamate because when it was released, calcium entered my cells and picked up jasmonic acid (JA), which gives me a foul taste.

- Herbivores can be defended against by plants. Making yourself taste terrible seconds after being attacked is one method they can defend themselves. This storyboard features a deer because it is a herbivore. The glutamate signalling pathway began as soon as the attacked plant became aware of its situation. An amino acid called glutamate is produced from damaged cells, alerting healthy cells to take up the hormone jasmonic acid by allowing calcium to enter healthy cells. The herbivore will eventually leave because of the flavour because jasmonic acid makes the healthy plant cells taste awful.
