I was born in 1978 to two high school English teachers.

My mom taught me at an early age that people equate proper English with intelligence. My friends were not always impressed with my attempts at proper English.
My dad gave me books and poetry. He helped me love all the ways language can make life beautiful.
Life for me ain't been no crystal stair
As a fourth grade teacher, I try to learn all the cool words from Tik Tok. My students are good sports, though I suspect more than a few feel sorry for their old teacher.
In EDUC 5425, I learned that I am a Language Police. I want to do better and make school safer for my kids.
