The objective is to find the value of x, unknown variable x in multi step equations. Given 4(x + 3) - 2 = 6 + x/2 So the first thing you need to do is to open the parenthesis by applying distributive property to the left hand side. After you open the parenthesis, that gives you 4x + 12 - 2 = 6 + x/2.Group like terms on the left hand side of your equation.That gives you 4x + 10 = 6 + x/2. Next, you Multiply both sides of the equation by 2, that gives you (4x + 10) x 2 = (6 + x/2) x 2. Apply distributive property which gives you 8x + 20 = 12 + x. In order to have the variable x on the left hand side, we will subtract x from both sides. That gives you 8x + 20 - x = 12 + 20 - x. Then sum up like terms on both sides. Therefore, 8x + 20 - x = 12 + x - x which is equal to 7x + 20 = 12.To make only like terms on either side of the equal side, we need to subtract 20 from both sides. That gives 7x + 20 - 20 = 12 - 20.Subtract the like terms which gives you 7x = -8 That last step is to make x the subject of formula by dividing both sides by 7. Therefore 7x divided by 7 is -8/7 Finally x = -8/7
