- Rising Action
- Montresor runs into Fortunado and offers him to drink the Amontillado wine, which is in the Catacombs. It was later into the night and Fortunado seems to be not well.
- Climax
- Montresor, states that Fortunado has insulted him and is plotting to get revenge. The readers don't know what Fortunado has done but it's known that it is unpunishable.
- Falling Action
- Montresor now leads Fortunado down into the Catacombs to taste his wine. As tension builds Montresor continues to ask Fortundao if he wants to turn back because he seems unwell. He continues to drink the wine.
- Resolution
- There is in fact no wine, but a hole in the wall which Fortunado is shackled into and is about to meet his doom.
- As Montresor lays the last few bricks Fortunado begs for him to stop but he's already almost done with his revenge.
- Montresor walks away with only the sound of Fortunado's voice in the back he has gotten away with his revenge.
