Bud and Lefty Lewis get in the car to head to Grand Rapids. Bud and Mr. Lewis run errands around Flint. On their way out of town, they get pulled over by a police car.
Jimmy calls Bud over and tells him that the band will feed him, but then he's got to tell them the truth.Bud agrees. He has never eaten in a restaurant before. This one is the best restaurant in Flint and is called the Sweet Pea.
Eating the best meal of his whole life, Bud relishes every bite and then gets a piece of pie on the house.The beautiful Miss Thomas hums and Bud thinks about how her humming sounds like a train coming on the track.Then, looking around the tables, Bud sees how funny Jimmy is and how nice Eddie is.Bud knows that he is where he is supposed to be and begins to cry so hard that Miss Thomas lifts him up and holds him tight on her lap.Bud feels like he is home!
