- The oregon trail was a trail westward of Independence, It was very rough and filled with dieses but it helped people settle westward.

- Americans believed that they had better culture and goverment than others, and they believed that they needed to expand westward.

- Mexico and america were in a war against each other for the independence of the now commenly known state, Texas.
- Mormans were discriminated and prosecuted due to their religon, so they decided to head west to the utah area.
- In 1848 when gold was found in a reigon now known as california, word spread and there was a major population spike in california due to the new possibalites
