Todays class we will be doing a visualization of Racialization and how it differs from ethnicity in America. One that can be a sensitive topic to note
I have organized you based on how you would fit into societies first implications of "color" vs "non-color" and the stereotyped categories within that which have historically been divided by economic status
Now I ask of everyone to share their cultural or background heritage in order to demonstrate ethnicity and the differences between you all
This is an example of Racialization where we tend to put people into categories even though there is much diversity within these groups.
I am actually Irish and have been passed knowledge of River dancing which is vital in bringing my community together
I am Haitian and am often categorized as African which is actually from the Caribbean. We value personal relationships and have taken on African traditions such as the Yanvalou
I am Metis and align with being treaty and Indigenous. I am often told I am simply white when there is more than that. As a Metis, I [partake in Cree culture by attending smudging ceremonies and passing of stories from my Cree elders
