In the city of Padua, there lived two sisters. The eldest, Katherine, was known as sharp-tongued and quick-tempered and was known as a shrew. Unlike her sister, Bianca was very obedient and sweet which gathered her lots of suitors. But her father, however, declares that no one shall marry her before Katherine is wed. This made Bianca's suitors very upset because it would be impossible to find Katherine a husband.

The suitors made a plan, Petruchio was going to marry Katherine so the rest could woo Bianca. In secret, Lucentio was going to be her "tutor" so that he could spend more time with her and Tranio was going to make sure Baptista does not promise her to anyone else until Lucentio shows his true colours.

Petruchio got permission from Baptista to marry Katherine. He told her that the wedding was already set and she had no choice but to agree. He flirted with her and called her Kate which made her very angry. Then he told her father that it went perfectly and she had agreed to the marriage.
You will be my Kate.
Are you a madman who has wandered in off the street?
At the wedding, Petruchio came late and dressed in ugly clothes. He was acting drunk and pig-headed and did not follow tradition at all. Afterwards, he ran away to Verona with Katherine. He attempted to "tame" Katherin by confusing her and saying the opposite to everything she said. Katherine put up a fight until they were halfway through Padua where she gave up from tiredness.
But that's... oh nevermind it can be a candle if you like. I don't want to fight anymore.

Meanwhile, the suiters started wooing Bianca again but Lucentio had already confessed and won her heart. They married shortly after, and Hortensio had married another woman so they decided to throw a party for all of the marriages.
At the party, the three men made a bet about whose wife will come to them first. To their surprise, Katherine, the once shrew, was the only one who came! She called the other women down and taught them a lesson about respecting their husbands. And that was how the shrew was tamed.
