- Bella, I could really use your help on this math problem I've been struggling withy=4x-1y=2x-5
- what's that?
- Oh, systems of equations... Definitely let me show you using the substitution method
- don't worry It's easy I promise

- okay is it possible you can better explain this on the way to the movies?
- when you use substitution you are basically substituting letters for numbers if that makes sense
- okay so for the first equation y=4x-1 lets say we get 4 small bottles of soda correct?
- I was thinking the new Spiderman movie
- okay so what movie are we going to see?
- okay!
- okay, sounds great
- wow, tha'ts a lot, okay how about for y=4x-1?
- so lets start with that second equation y=2x-5 we are going to rewrite 4x-1=2x-5 without the variables okay . we need to get x alone so we are going to subtract 2x on both sides . 4 minus 2x is 2x-1=-5 you'll drop everything in the equation now circle x and add 1 on both sides
- so basically to sum this up we are plugging in numbers for the variables.
- you should get 2x=-4 you need to divide by 2 to get x alone , so you should get x=-2

- this seems easier than i thought.
- now all you need to do is multiply 4 and -2 which is -8 then subtract by 1 , don't forget the 1 and add that should give you -9
- in conclusion your x=-2 and your y= -9 so your solution is (-2,-9)
- so this part is easy all i need you to do is plug in what you got for x next to 4 so it should look like this , y=4(-2)-1
