- Early 1917: German Foreign Secretary Arthur Zimmerman writes a telegram to Mexico. He claims that Germany will help get Mexico's territory back that they had lost in the 1840s to the US.
- Germany needs Mexico as an ally. We also need the United States to want to go to war. We will easily defeat them.

- March 1917: The Zimmerman Note was published by newspapers. It was intercepted from German Foreign Secretary Arthur Zimmerman to the German ambassador to Mexico.

- They sink our ships! Kill our people! And now they claim to give OUR land to Mexico? We must put an end to them!
- I want my grandchildren to grow up fighting for what is right. Germany MUST be put in their place!

- March 1917: President Wilson had enough of Germany and saw war as opportunity to destroy German militarism. He asked Congress for a declaration of war.
- We have all had enough. Let'g go to war.
- I am deeply offended and insulted by the Zimmerman Note. We have endured enough from Germany. It is time to enter this war they practically beg of us. I am asking for a declaration of war.
