- douglass has lived in this house for 7 years and his masters mistress would tech him how to read everyday . his mistress would be nice to help and help him with stuff. douglass leaned the abcs because of her and this is the start of his jounry to read.

- oh how i wish i have never learned how to read why must african american suffer just because of their skin. learning to read has been a curse to me more than anything it was no help to me or my brain now i know i am not supposed to be able to learn how to read and how i wish i listen. Now most of all i rather be a beast the meanest of all than rather sit here and hear,watch,read about my people getting killed over work how i wish this world would give each rights to all no matter the skin.
- after douglass learn how to read he learn all about the mistreat to the people of african americans. He said that.learning how to read was a curse more than a blessing as now he lives on with the knownlegde of his people being mistreated for how they look.
