He walked toward the girls house on a very cold December winter, holding on to the two oranges in his jacket pockets. He was trying to ignore the dog barking at him from inside the house.

They walked into town together, it was as cold as the north side of a January gravestone by moonlight.
They arrived in front of the drug store. He held onto his one nickle.
She wanted a chocolate that costed 10 cents, but he only had a nickel.
I only have 5 cents.

He put an orange, the nickel, and the chocolate on the counter. Then the clerk knew that the boy was trying to make the girl happy, but didn't have the money.
