Soldiers receiving the order from their general to attacking the village.
On March 16, 1968 the angry and frustrated men of Charlie Company, 11th Brigade, Americal Division entered the Vietnamese village of My Lai. what was originally set out to be a search and destroy mission, later became a massacre over 300 unarmed citizens. Under the orders of Lt. William Calley, men were ordered to enter the village firing, even with no opposed shots. Women, children, and men were all killed in such gruesome ways.
The massacre continues (woman being raped)
This is Vo Cao (a survivor of my Lai) who was 16 at the time. His house got blown up as American soldiers killed his family and he watched as he hid behind a coconut tree by a river. There was smoke and blood everywhere and all he heard was explsions and gunshots.
This is Phan Thi Thuan (another survivor of My Lai). She got forced into a ditch with a hundred other people and the American troops started firing, checked for survivors and started firing again. She cried while trying to keep her daughters quiet. When the shooting stopped, she crawled over the dead bodies to get out.
