- benvolio and mercutio are walking down the street talking about how romeo gave them the slip after the party. believing that hes still out chasing rosaline
- Not to his father's; I spoke with his man
- Where the devil should this Romeo be?Came he not home tonight?
- good morrow to you both. what counterfeit did i give you?
- the slip sir, the slip - can you not conceive?
- A gentleman, nurse, that loves to hear himself talk, and willspeak more in a minute than he will stand to in a month.
- I pray you, sir, what saucy merchant was this,that was so full of his ropery?
- As Romeo approaches, Benvolio urges Mercutio to be quiet. Romeo comes near, and Mercutio laments to Benvolio how lovelorn he looks.
- benvolio reports that tybalt left a letter to the montague household
- romeo greets the pair and mercutio accuses him of giving them the slip the night before
- they continue to exchange sexual jokes until mercutio says romeo wore the jest out, he then notices romeo returned to his normal self
- romeo assured he had business to attend to and was forced to strain courtesy in pursuit of it
- after this the nurse enters and greets the men causing mercutio and benvolio to make some dirty jokes over they nurse pulling romeo to one side before leaving and telling romeo there going back for dinner
- mercutio makes a bun at romeos response which leads to romeo saying his business strained his hams, causing mercutio to accuse romeo of sleeping with a woman
- romeo gives the nurse some money for her troubles in spite of her protestations, and informs her that in an hours time romeos servant will be waiting behind the wall of a near by abbey with a rope ladder to give to the nurse as romeo plans to use the ladder to sneak into Juliet's room late at night
- the nurse was not amused by mercutios humour and chides peter for remaining silent, he then tries to make excuses for himself to no avail as the nurse waves him off and pulls romeo to one side
- she then informs romeo that she was sent by Juliet to receive a message off romeo, but before she does the nurse wants to warn romeo not to "lead her into a fools paradise"
- the nurse is weary and asks if the servant can be trusted to keep the secret, and romeo insists that his servant is "true as steel"Juliet nurse says that Juliet to is trustworthy and in spite of a marriage proposal from Paris is still choosing to honour her love for romeoromeo bids the nurse farewell and asks her to put in a good word about him to Juliet, the nurse says she will as her and peter hurry off
- romeo insists that his love for Juliet is true and asks the nurse to tell Juliet to make up an excuse to go to confession that afternoon so that friar Lawrence can wed them both
