- ETHOS
- When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the constitution and the declaration of independence, They were signing a promissary note to which every american falls heir.
- PATHOS
- One hundred years later the negro lives on the lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of prosperity.
- LOGOS
- And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together.
- I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
- King is saying that when the Constitution and Declaration of Independence were written it was clearly stated that every man was free in this country so why are we not.
- Ethos
- king says that black people suffer more than anybody else. he states "the negro lives on the lonely island of poverty in a vast ocean of prosperity." He is reffering to how blacks are crammed into little ghettos and city blocks while everyone else is able to live anywhere and do anything.
- PATHOS
- He is saying that God sees all people as the same so why do we not. We need to look past the color of someones skin but at the contents of their personalitys.
- LOGOS
- He uses Ethos by connecting with the part of the audience that have kids. He states that he wants his kids to grow up being able to talk to anyone and go anywhere instead of being restricted by their color.
- King is using the amount of time from when slaves were "freed'" to what it was then. He states that they still are not completely freed that they are still held captive by segregation and racism.
- One hundred years later the negro still is not free.
- It is a death sentence to our country if we don't act on this opportunity to change what is happening and make it right.
- Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of gods children. it would be fatal for our nation to overlook the urgency of this moment.
