- This is Henry Hudson he was born in London, England at around 1565. Hudson could read, write, and do mathematics. His grandfather was one of the founder of the Muscovy Company. Which, at the time, was a big trading company. Hudson learned many skills while he worked on ships as a cabin boy. The trading company and opportunities it brought could have inspired him to explore.
- It is not known exactly when, but Henry Hudson met Katherine and had three kids, Oliver, John, and Richard. John went on all of Henry Hudson's voyages.
- It is believed that he sailed with John Davis in 1587 in search of the northwest passage. In 1607 he was commissioned by the Moscovy company to lead a journey across the Arctic Circle to China
- I sailed through uncharted, dangerous icy waters of the Arctic. A strait, a bay, and a river are named after me.
- Hudson sailed out of England in 1607, and it took 26 days to reach the Shetland Islands north of Great Britain and a week in a half to reach the Arctic Circle. Although Hudson could not find a northern route to China, he saw many whales which the Muscovy company began to plan for a whaling expidition.
- In 1608, Hudson ignored the trouble with his crew and reached Novaya Zemlya. He saw many animals, and he even recorded seeing a mermaid. Like his last voyage he was not able to navigate through the ice packs
- However his inadequate leadership skills led to his unfortunate end. He never found a passage to Asia, but Hudson discovered various North American water routes. The discoveries he made led North American colonization and trading.
