- In March 1765, the Parliament the ''Quartering Act'' started. Under the terms of this law, the colonist were directed to provide for the basic needs of soldiers stationed within its borders.
- The law specified that it included items included bedding, cooking utensils, firewood, beer or cider and candles.
- This law was expanded in 1766 and required the colonies to provide lodging for soldiers in taverns and unoccupied houses.
