  • Point of View - First Person
  • Narrated from the perspective of the speaker. It is as if you are inside the speaker's head, and most of the time it is the main character doing the storytelling. You get a chance to have an inside look as to what the character is thinking and experiencing. Pronouns used: Adjective used: Singular Plural Singular Plural I we my our me us mine ours
  • Example
  • When I overheard one of the men talking about coming out of the forest, only to find his car with half of it looking as if it was bitten off by a giant alien, I knew I had to investigate. I called Sam, and we quickly made plans to meet at the edge of the forest by six o'clock. We both packed snacks, cameras, torchlights and flares (just in case of an emergency), and gears to trap what was now a massive monster alien in our minds! The adrenaline was coursing through our veins like an electric charge, knowing that we were at the beginning of a great adventure!
  • Point of View - Second Person
  • In this type of story, the main character is 'you'. The reader feels as if the author is addressing him/her, and the reader is made to feel and think in a reactive way, since it seems as if the events in the story is happening to him/her. Pronouns used: You , Yourself , Yours, YourselvesAdjective used: Your
  • Example
  • Point of View - Third Person
  • The reader gets the big picture about all of the characters and events and is immersed in the plot until the very end. There are two types:a) Limited- the author tells the story and lets us see the thoughts of only one character. b) Omniscient- The author tells the story and lets us see all of the characters' thoughts and feelings. The reader gets to form his/her own opinion about the characters based on their actions, and can form attachments to any of them, depending on his/her interest in the text. Pronouns used: he, she, it, they, her, his, him, theirs, hers, himself, herself, itself, themselves. Adjectives used: his, her, its, their
  •  Do you really think it was a wise decision for you and your friend to venture into the forest at night to lie in wait for an alien monster? It sounds adventurous and exciting, but what if it were real; what would you do if you got caught?
  •  Suddenly, Sam and Pete heard an ominous sound...a crackling of a twig and a low-pitched growl that sent chills down their spines and caused their hearts to race like the speed of a hummingbird's wings. But before they could even muster the courage to turn, their backpacks were yanked forcefully from their shoulders, and they found themselves hovering in mid air. With all of their might, they leapt to the ground, and upon seeing the frightful, demonic creature, forgot about catching it and raced like Usain Bolt out of the forest, screaming at the top of their lungs until they reached home.
