- Before the French Revolution, King Louis XVI of France was an Absolute Monarch. This meant he had complete power over the French people... This would not last for long!
- Scene 4: Reign of Terror
- This Revolutionary government is out of control!
- In 1789, the French people were suffering because of food shortages. People were hungry and the King decided to RAISE their taxes. For many, this was the final straw and the Revolution will begin...
- Scene 5: Rise of Napoleon
- The Tennis Court Oath was taken inside a gymnasium which was the formation of a new government called "The National Assembly". This Government declared to be "OF THE PEOPLE" not controlled by the KING.

- The Reign of Terror was the period of the French Revolution where the Committee of Public Safety took control of the government. They set out to defend the principles of the revolution, but wound up executing over 40,000 "enemies" of the Revolution leading to widespread hatred of the government.

- The Revolutionary government had lost the favor of the people and many were dissatisfied with their rule. Napoleon was a very successful French military leader who came back and overthrew the Revolutionary government and eventually named himself "First Consul of France" making him the unquestioned, singular ruler of France.
