- Eteocles and Polyneices, Antigone's brothers, have killed each other.
- Eteocles and Polyneices have both been killed, Creon declares himself king and his word law.
- Creon orders, under penalty of death, that Eteocles will receive a proper burial and Polyneices will not because he was a traitor. .
- Antigone tells her sister Ismene that she is going to bury her brother even it means her death, because that is what is right.
- It is reported to Creon that someone had "buried" the body of Polyneices against his orders.
- Ismene tries to tell Creon that it was she that buried her brother, but Antigone tells the King it was really her who was responsible, so he sentences Antigone to death.
- Antigone is taken to a cave where she is left to die.
- Haemon, Creon's son, pleads with his father to release Antigone, saying if Creon doesn't, Haemon will kill himself.
- Teiresias, the blind seer, shows up at Creon's house to inform him of the stupidity of his law and to urge him to let Antigone go free.
- Creon and Haemon go to the cave to free Antigone and discovers that she has hanged herself, then Haemon attacks Creon.
- After failing in his attack on the King, Haemon stabs himself; Haemon's mother,Eurydice comes in and finds him dead, she then kills herself.
- Creon, now without family, realizes too late, what he has done is wrong and wishes he, too, could die soon.
