- Students woke up suddenly feeling dizzy in an empty room, they don't know each other but the main character Cal discovered 2 of his classmates in the crowd. He approached the 2 whose names are Maia and Steven and they also don't know why they are there. Out of nowhere, a big black screen appeared in one of the walls and a door opened woth an exit sign plastered in it. Out of confusion and panic the other students ran to the exit andimmediately knocked out of their senses by an unknown substance in the air that they inhaled. All of them panicked after seeing that and suddenly someone spoke to them thru a moitor.
- "Greetings to all of you, you are in a room with no other exit except the one under the big screen. As you've also seen, some of you ran but got immediately took down so you all are aware if you plan to do something rash. You all will solve a problem that involves using synthetic division. Here's the word problem,"
- "Imagine you're playing a game. Only (x³ + 2x² - 4x + 16) players are allowed to leave the room at this stage for every (x + 4) game and the losers will be trapped for the rest of their lives. For each game, how many players were allowed to escape?", “the remainder will represent the number of players that'll escape. Goodluck to all of you.”
- Then the announcer said that to be able to survive is to solve the problem and the remainder of the problem will determine the number of players that could survive.
- Cal saw the marks in the mask so he thinks that the right terms in the correct answer is the real mask.
- There are 6 masks that the player will use if they solved the equation, 2 of the masks are fake and 4 of it will ensure the safety of the player so that they will not just run off and also there are markings in the mask that shows the different terms present in the correct answer and these marked masks are the real ones.
