- Hmm, they are called expressed powers. One of the powers that is spelled out in the constitution is declaring war.
- Also Grandpa, what makes the president the Commander and chief of the air force? I know that being Commander and chief of the army and navy is written in the constitution, but I don't see Commander and chief of the air force.
- That is an example of an implied power, it is not written in the constitution, but it is suggested.
- Are there any other powers you can tell me about?
- Yes, inherent powers are not written in the constitution, but are necessary for a president to fulfill his duty. An example of an inherent power is regulating immigration.
- Ohhh, that makes sense. This is very interesting Grandpa.
- Concurrent powers also exist. These are political powers shared by both national and state governments. An example is building roads.
- Lastly, reserved powers are state powers. These include regulating trade and setting up federal courts.
