- Have you ever wondered where all this stuff came from?
- Well, all this "stuff" is called matter!
- Matter is pretty cool! Tell me more about it!
- The study of matter and the changes it undergoes is called chemistry...
- So what exactly is this?
- when h2o (water) goes through a phase change,freezes, it becomes ice! its changes from a liquid to a solid.
- so shouldn't we be on ice right now?
- well no. the freezing point for water is 0 degrees Celsius and not all water is the same temperature.
- well can other liquids change their form as well?
- liquids can go through vaporization and freezing!
- huh?
- vaporization is the process by which a a liquid changes into a gas or vapor...
- can these molecules go anywhere?
- these molecules can do many things, such as evaporate. But this can only happen at the surface of the liquid.
- What about solids?
- Crystalline solids have a melting point in which the forces holding its crystal latices together break,
- what happens when a gas or vapor becomes a liquid?
- Thats called condensation!
- can a gas or vapor become a solid without becoming a liquid?
- Yes! Indeed! that process is called deposition!
