When Gina was born, her parents ignored the doctors who said that life for Gina will be too difficult. Despite what everyone said, they persevered and did what they felt was right, which stood out to me. As a teacher, I will make sure to advocate for and support the parents who are making decisions that they feel is best for their child. I will continuously send parents videos of their children so that they can have continuous updates on their child's development and success, and parents can send videos to me about their concerns.
When looking at preschools for Gina, her parents were told that Gina was not appropriate for a class that provided a reading device with auditory output. It is inspirational how Gina's parents fought for Gina to be placed in that class, which ultimately was the best decision for her since she flourished!
As a future educator, I will make sure to listen to the concerns of every parent. I will make sure to have a weekly check in with parents, which will ask them what changes they feel need to be made for their child to succeed.
I will make sure to take notes for parents about their child's development in the classroom, and parents will be allowed to send notes with their child to school to communicate with me.
Overall, Gina's story inspired me to fight for what's right when I'm a parent and educator. In my future classroom,
