- Yea mom that wasn’t there last year.
- Oh my God! What is that in the water?
- Well those are wind turbines that our state government agreed to put in the water to help generate clean energy to help fight climate change. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities chose Ocean Wind, a proposal by Danish energy company Orsted and supported by PSEG Power.
- Yes our Governor Phil Murphy wants to try and power 1.5 million houses in New Jersey by the year 2030 from the offshore wind generation.
- But it ruins the beach!!!
- Hey guys! I am Sandy the Seagull! I see that you’re upset about the wind turbines in the water.
- All they do is make the beach look worse. Are they going to stay like that forever?
- Well I don’t get why they are here.
- Well the turbines are going to be built 15 miles off the shore so they are going to not damage the view of the shore that much and there are so many benefits to our community that sacrificing some part of the beaches view will be worth it.
- Well this is going to help fight climate change. The wind turbines will help generate clean energy that will cut down on the use of greenhouse gasses.
- How is this going to be good?
- Well not only is this going to provide a lot of jobs for the New Jersey people but it will open a whole new business of offshore energy.
- But won’t this cost a lot of money?
- Yes ocean wind was the best option for New Jersey so the government partnered with them to help out state fight climate change!!!!
- So the turbines are going to help?
- Wow wind turbines are great!
