- After the civil war there was a time period called the Reconstruction Era . where most of the south had to be reconstructed.
- During this era an amendment was past, the 13th amendment.
- have you heard...the 13th amendment has been passed we are free!!!!!
- Are you serious.. that is amazing news!!
- Time after the 13th amendment free slaves were still being treated differently, this was called black codes .
- have you not heard....
- we have been given citizenship as a result of the black codes, the 14th amendment was passed.
- Isn't it crazy that even after we have been freed we are still treated differently?
- wow, everything is happening back to back.

- do you ever wish we could vote? we have been given citizenship but we cant vote I don't understand.
- yeah I agree, we should be able to vote!
- have you guys heard, the 15th amendment has been passed all male citizens have been allowed to vote.
- no way! we can vote, the 15th amendment is amazing.
