- On Christmas night George Washington led the troops across the Delaware river to ambush the Hessians. They suffered few casualties, and showed the British that the Continental army could win the war.

- They turned a retreat into a victory, and this was after a 10 day campaign. They British troops mostly left New Jersey.
- Summary
- It was a major loss for the continental army, and the British captured Philadelphia. It was one of the longest battles in the war.
- This was a major win for the patriots, and it is known as the turning point of the war. It persuaded foreign countries to help to fight the Brits.
- First the British won the battle of long island. Then George Washington led the army and won at the battle of Trenton. After that the Americans won again. Then they sadly lost at Brandywine. The finally the won at the battle of Saratoga.
