  • We finally made it to America after our long journey funded by the Virginia company.
  • Bye captain Newport!
  • We'll help you!
  • Ahhhh!
  • I'm back everyone, and I've brought food and supplies.
  • in 1606 a group of English colonists sailed to Jamestown on three ships captained by Christopher Newport. Their trip lasted three stormy weeks. Now on May 13th the weather was nice but Summers can be brutally hot and winters brutally cold. They were ib what is now Virginia Beach.
  • I hurt myself, better get back to England.
  • In 1607 the colonists began to build a protective fence around Jamestown and Captain Newport sailed back to England leaving 104 behind. When Newport left all was going well but in two months their situation changed. No real progress was made until 1608 when John Smith became president.
  • Hi we're Sir Thomas Gates and the Bermuda group
  • John Smith arrives back in Jamestown in January. To and the village caught fire. Food supplies had been destroyed along with houses. Luckily the native Americans help them rebuild.
  • We're leaving!
  • A supply ship arrived bringing with it about 150 inexperienced settlers. The new arrivals brought damaged supplies and disease. That year, 1609, was important because they weren't prepare for the winter and entered into what was called the "starving time".
  • The starving time occurred during the winter of 1609 - 1610. Roughly 3/4 of the colonists died from starvation or starvation related diseases. When the starving times had ended Sir Thomas Gates arrived along with the rest of the Bermuda group.
  • The colonists are prepared to abandon the colony but they get word that Lord de la Warr is coming to help them with 150 more settlers and supplies.
