  • THE 10 PLAGUES OF EGYPT
  • Moses Asks Pharaoh to Release Israelites
  • The Lord said to Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet. You are to say everything I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his country...
  • 1st Plague - Water Turned to Blood
  • The Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt - over the streams and canals, over the ponds and all the reservoirs and they will turn to blood....
  • 2nd Plague - Plague of Frogs
  • The Lord said to Moses, “Go to the Pharaoh and say to him ... I will send a plague of frogs on your whole country... They will come into your palace and your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and on your people, and into your ovens and kneading thoughts.
  • 3rd 4th Plagues - Plagues of Lice Flies
  • God appoints Moses to help the enslaved Israelites living in Egypt. Moses and his brother Aaron go to the Pharaoh, and Moses asks him to release the Israelites. After the Pharaoh angrily refuses, God decides to send Egypt 10 Plagues, to make him release them.
  • 5th Plague - Plague of Livestock
  • The first plague to hit Egypt, was the water of the Nile river turning to blood, which He did by sending Moses and Aaron to the river Nile, where Aaron raised his staff and struck the water, turning it into blood. This caused all the fish in the river to die and a stream of blood to flow throughout Egypt, which lasted for one whole week.
  • 6th Plague - Plague of Boils
  • Despite the horror of the first plague, the Pharaoh refused to let the Israelites go. So, God had Aaron stretch his hand out over the waters of Egypt, and frogs began to swarm throughout the land. The Pharaoh then promised to let the Israelites go, if the frogs were removed, but again did not fulfil his promise.
  • 7th Plague - Plague of Hail
  • God, sent Egypt a 3rd plague, this time, as Aaron struck the dust with his staff, a stream of bugs of lice/gnats, swarmed across Egypt. The Pharaoh still refused to let the Israelites go, so God sent a 4th plague of flies, which swarmed Egypt, however, this also did not make the Pharaoh release the Israelites.
  • The Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the ground, and throughout the land of Egypt the dust will become lice...If you do not let my people go, I will send swarms of flies on you and your officials, on your people and into your houses.
  • The 5th plague God sent to Egypt, was one which killed all of the Egypt's livestock. This plague was devastating for the Egyptian's, as their livelihoods depended on these animals. To add to the their grief, they had to watch the Israelites’ animals go unhurt. But again the Pharaoh did not free the Israelites.
  • The Lord said to Moses, “Go to the Pharaoh and say to him... the hand of the Lord will bring a terrible plague on your livestock in the field - on your horses, donkeys and camels and on your cattle, sheep and goats.
  • The 6th plague to fall on Egypt, was the plague of boils, which caused both the people and animals of Egypt to break out in unbearable boils. The Israelites remained untouched from this awful plague, but again the persistent Pharaoh refused to let them go.
  • The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Take handfuls of soot from a furnace ...toss it into the air in the presence of Pharaoh. It will become fine dust over the whole land of Egypt, and festering boils will break out on people and animals throughout the land.
  • The hail that pelted down on Egypt in this plague involved huge, destructive balls of ice that left no living thing unharmed, except for the Israelites. This plague seemed to get through to the Pharaoh, who again promised to let the Israelites go if the plague would stop.
  • The Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that hail will fall all over Egypt - on people and animals and on everything growing in the fields of Egypt.
  • 8th Plague - Plague of Locust
  • 9th Plague - Plague of Darkness
  • 10th Plague - Plague of the Firstborn
  • Once again the Pharaoh did not fulfil his promise, and so a plague of locusts invaded all of Egypt. The volume of locusts was so much, that the sun was completely blocked out. The locusts forged a path of destruction across the entire land.
  • Moses and Aaron said to the Pharaoh, “This is what the Lord the God of the Hebrews says... if you refuse to let my people go, I will bring locusts into your country tomorrow. They will cover the face of the ground so it cannot be seen.
  • This plague cast a cloak of darkness over Egypt, which lasted for a number of days. During this time, the Egyptians trembled in fear, as no light could be seen across Egypt, while the Israelites continued on as normal in the land of Goshen, where the light still remained.
  • The Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, darkness which may even be felt.
  • Just as Moses promised, at midnight every firstborn in the land of Egypt was killed, including the firstborn son of the Pharaoh. The whole of Egypt mourned for the loss of their firstborns. After this 10th plague, the pharaoh finally freed the Israelites allowing them to leave Israel.
  • Moses said, “Thus said the Lord...all the firstborns in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, to the firstborn son of the female slave who is behind the hand mill, and all the firstborn of the cattle as well .
