Texte du Storyboard

  • "John Proctor is not Isaac Ward that drank his family to ruin...I would postpone these hangin's for a time."
  • "There will be no postponement."
  • "Excellency...."
  • "Now hear me...I will not receive a single plea for pardon or postponement. Them that will not confess will hang."
  • Parris tells Danforth that Abigail has stolen all his money and run off on a ship. The court has lost it's accuser and she is now known to be a liar, a thief and a harlot. Danforth must save the credibility of the court. The town of Andover has already thrown out the court in their town and want nothing more to do with witch hunts.
  • "Fetch Goody Proctor to me. Then let you bring him up."
  • "...no man knows when the harlot's cry will end his life-and you wonder yet if rebellion's spoke?"
  • Parris explains to Judge Hawthorne that the accused people in this town are good people and that executing them may wake a vengeance on Judge Hawthorne and the court. The people that were executed in Andover are not comparable to the people on trial now in Salem.
  • "you baffle me sir. Why have you returned here?"
  • Danforth is having none of it.
  • "Why it is all simple. I come to do the Devil's work. I come to counsel Christians they should belie themselves!"
  • Danforth knows that Proctor's wife is pregnant and thinks she may be able to persuade him to confess and save himself, while damning others in the process. He is losing credibility and needs a confession to save the name of the court and justify it's proceedings.
  • Everyone tries to talk Danforth into showing mercy or postponing. Hale tells him that God is not with him in raising a rebellion.
  • Hale is frustrated and angry. He wants to save people and get to the truth. He sees that these proceedings are unjust. All the accused are presumed guilty unless they lie to save themselves.
