Storyboard Description

The ancient Greek myth of Hades and Persephone.

Texte du Storyboard

  • Eros!
  • Aphrodite saw love had taken over all the realms. All but one. The underworld.
  • She called for her son, Eros. She planned to make Hades fall in love.
  • Eros shot Hades directly in the heart with his sharpest arrow.
  • And the first person he saw was bright-eyed Persephone, daughter of Demeter, goddess of the harvest.
  • Immediately he fell in love, and wanted to marry her! But he knew she would refuse, so he made a plan...
  • Hades hid whilst Persephone played with her friend, a nymph.
  • APHRODITE!!!
  • He stole Persephone away and took her down into the underworld!
  • Gasp!!!
  • Later Demeter, wondering where her daughter was, found Persephone's sash in the river
  • Immediately, she knew what had happened...
  • A god's actions are irreversible.
  • ENOUGH!
  • Demeter went to Olympus, and demanded that Zeus brought her daughter back. But Zeus refused.
  • Demeter was furious, and harsh snow and ice spread across the lands. People grew hungry and cold.
  • Zeus grew tired of all the suffering Demeter's anger created, so he gave in. He sent Hermes down to the underworld to bring back Persephone.
  • Hermes begged and begged, until Hades finally agreed to set Persephone free. On one condition.
  • If she hadn't eaten anything in the underworld, she could leave. But Persephone had eaten something! Six pomegranate seeds!
  • So Hermes made a bargain. Every six months (for six seeds), Persephone would remain in the underworld. For the rest of the year, she would stay with her mother on Earth.
  • Hades agreed, so for six months, Persephone returns to Earth, and the world is a happy, bright place.
  • But for the six months Persephone is away, the world plunges into winter, and crops die.
  • And that is why we have seasons!
