The 13th Amendment officially made slavery illegal in all states. African Americans could no longer be held as slaves and were free to live their lives as people and not as property.
The 14th Amendment granted citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States and guaranteed all citizens “equal protection of the laws.”
The 15th Amendment granted all African American men over the age of 18 the right to vote.
