- Juno hated the Trojans and so she persuaded Aeolus, Keeper of the winds, to unleash a storm sending them off course. They were wrecked off the coast of Libya which is where Carthage was being built

- In Carthage Aeneas met Dido. He told her about the Trojan horse and that Apollo told him he must settle in the land of his forefathers, which he took to mean Crete. However, in a dream the Gods informed him that his true homeland was Italy. Along the way Aeneas encountered many monsters such as Scylla and Charybdis
- After spending some time with Aeneas in a cave, Dido assumed they are married and announced that he and his men would stay in Carthage. Aeneas wanted to stay but knew he must find Italy so he left. This broke Dido's heart and she jumped onto a funeral pyre and stabbed herself to death
- Aeneas and the Trojans landed in Sicily and Anchises told Aeneas to go to the underworld in a vison. While he was there he encountered Dido, who ignored him while he apologised for breaking her heart. Later, he was reunited with his father who showed him what would happen to his descendants in the future
- When he arrived in Italy, The king of the Latins (Latinus) offered Aeneas his daughter, Lavinia, in marriage. However, she was already engaged to a warlord called Turnus
- Aeneas and Turnus fought and one of Aeneas' companions, Pallas, died, leading him to go on a killing spree (similar to Patroclus and Achilles). Eventually, Turnus was killed in single combat
