  • Hey! Do you remember that time you really embarrassed yourself in front of the entire company?
  • No. I think I blocked that from my mind...
  • How Jung Sees Me
  • Wow! It's a superhero!
  • How Rogers Sees Me
  • Seeing them happy makes me feel for them and now I am happy too.
  • Sigmund Freud talked about the Ego Defense Mechanisms, saying that we transform our stressors into a less threatening form. One of the ideas he used for this is repression. He said that we avoid painful thoughts by pushing them away from us, or to the back of our mind where it is easier to ignore them.
  • How Costa and McCrae See Me
  • Carl Jung said that everyone has common symbols that are shared across all people and cultures that influence our decisions and personalities. This is the collective unconscious which he claimed allows people to experience the same thoughts and feelings.
  • How Eysenck Sees Me
  • It is so peaceful here, it really helps me regain my energy.
  • Carl Rogers created the Person-Centered Perspective, claiming that there are three conditions that facilitate growth. They are genuineness, unconditional positive regard, and empathy. The one that ties into the picture above is empathy, tuning into the feelings of others.
  • How Bandura Sees Me
  • Costa and McCrae stated that there are five traits that describe personality: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism. They said that someone who is high in agreeableness is collaborative and trusting.

  • Eysenck claimed that personality was based on two dimensions: introvert vs. extrovert and emotional stability vs. instability. A stable introvert would be described as someone who is even-tempered and gets energy from their inner or personal world.
  • Albert Bandura said that the way we think, the way we behave, and the environment we are in all determine our personality. Each one interacts with the other to create a personality unique to each individual.
