  • Martin Luther became popular during the 16th Century for fighting against the Roman Catholic Church's abuses. He wrote his 95 theses and posted them on the door of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Due to Martin Luther's 95 thesis people became upset with the Roman Catholic Church, creating the Protestant Reformation. The Protestant Reformation was an attack on the Roman Catholic Church threatening their political and religious power.
  • The Roman Catholic Church became worried for their political and religious power. The Religious leaders then decided to take action by creating the Council of Trent. The Council of Trent was a group of Religious leaders that were against the Protestant-Reformation.
  • The Council Of Trent decided to create the Counter-Reformation. The Counter-Reformation was an idea to keep the Roman Catholic Church in power. The Counter-Reformation was also a way for the Roman Catholic Church to attack back at the Protestant Reformation.
  • The Council of Trent decided to end the sale of the indulgences (one of the Roman Catholic Church's abuses). However, the Council of Trent didn't want Martin Luther to stay in power any longer. The Council decided to make any contact with Martin illegal and punishable by death. To make sure people would no longer side with the Protestant-Reformation they would kill anyone who had different views than the Church.
