  • Odysseus ruled the Island of Ithaca alongside his wife, Penelope, and his newborn son, Telemachus. This where Odysseus was before the story began. Odysseus is blind to what adventure awaits him, connecting it to the ordinary world.
  • Meeting the Mentor
  • Odysseus is asked to battle in the Trojan war, which is said to begin his elongated adventure. This disrupts Odysseus's "ordinary world", as it poses a challenge that must be met.
  • Crossing the First Threshold
  • When an oracle warns Odysseus that he will be gone for a long time, he wants to avoid taking part in the Trojan War. So Odysseus pretended to go insane because he didn't want to abandon his home, but King Menelaus of Sparta put Odysseus's son, Telemachus, to the plow. Odysseus was forced to reveal his sanity and participate in the Trojan War as a result of this. This is similar to the hero's journey stage of the refusal, as Odysseus tries not to participate. in the war.

  • Odysseus travels to the underworld in order to gain valuable information from Tiresias, the blind prophet's ghost. Odysseus is nearly killed when the powerful dead souls strike. He is finally given enough information and wisdom to sail back home. This creates the ordeal of the story.
  • Resurrection
  • After overcoming his greatest personal challenge, beating his rivals, escaping death, and eventually overcoming his greatest challenges, he is finally given his reward, a passage home by King Alcinous, the ruler of the Phaecians Island.
  • Return
  • Since his work isn't over, Odysseus returns disguised as a beggar. Penelope, his wife, is besieged by suitors who want to marry her, and Odysseus must get rid of them. This begins the "road back" section of the plot, as Odysseus needs one more push to return to his normal life.
  • Odysseus is compelled to make a plan that would get rid of them and make sure his wife remained loyal. He puts his life at stake but manages to emerge victorious, by killing the thousands of suitors that betrayed him.
  • Odysseus finally returns to his noble place reunited with his wife, Penelope, and his son, Telemachus as a changed and wiser man, looking forward to his new life.
