  • In this scene, situtional irony is shown. When someone offers someone else something you would expect them to happily accept it. In this scene, Lillian offers Mrs. Sakkaro an orange drink and Mrs. Sakkaro declines it and jumps back scared.
  • When Lillian is talking to him, George does not really pay attention to her. Also, whenever he responds to her it is usually in a sarcastic tone. This shows verbal irony because he is sarcastic towards her.
  • In this scene, dramatic irony is shown. Throughout the story it is shown that the Sakkaros are scared of water. When they pour water they're careful, they read lots of newspapers to know the forecast, and here it is shown he is holding a barometer. This shows dramatic irony because the Wrights do not know that they are scared of water, but the reader does.
