  • Cells are the basic unit of life. Plants and animals are composed of millions of cells.
  • Cells provide structure for the body to take nutrients from food and convert it into energy and carry out specialized functions.
  • Plant and Animal Cells
  • Aren't they all the same?
  • In fact Animal cells are the basic unit of life in organisms of the kingdom Animalia. They are eukaryotic cells, meaning that they have a true nucleus and specialized structures called organelles that carry out different functions.
  • Animal Cell
  • No Ronnie! Everything is not the same.
  • Todays lesson is about animals cells and plant cells!
  • Animal cells do not have a cell wall
  • What are the differences?
  • Animals Cells have to find their own food
  • Most animal cells are round whereas most plant cells are rectangular
  • Well lets take a look.
  • Animal Cells can't synthesis nutrients
  • Joseph Irvin 1st hour
  • Plant cells are eukaryotic cells or cells with a membrane-bound nucleus. A plant cell also contains structures not found in an animal cell. Some of these include a cell wall, a large vacuole, and plastids. Plastids, such as chloroplasts, assist in storing and harvesting needed substances for the plant.
  • Yes there are some similarities.
  • Plant Cell
  • Well it kinda look the same as the animal cell.
  • Animal Cell
  • Here are the plant cell differences from the animal cells
  • Plant cells have a cell wall for protection and structure
  • Great question! It's a jelly like substance. It allows plants to capture the energy of the sun in energy rich molecules; cell walls allow plants to have rigid structures. All these differences are examples of organelles; small objects that perform a specific job within the cell
  • Plant cells have larger vacuoles for food and water storage
  • What's a chloroplast?
  • They have chloroplasts where photosynthesis happens and energy is created
  • Here are the similarities
  • Animal cell differences
  • Both have vacuoles
  • They both are eukaryotic; they have DNA inside a nucleus
  • both have a endoplasmic reticulum
  • Now since we have gone over differences and similarities who's ready for a quiz?
  • Both have mitochondria, ribosomes, Lysosomes and golgi apparatus
  • Oh great.... Can we use are notes?
