- EXPOSITION
- I take care of you, you take care of me
- CONFLICT
- Cal I'm going to Washington to get my bonus money, you will be staying back at Challagi.
- RISING ACTION
- Pop and Cal are on a dirt road talking about their ethical code, their farm that they lost, and how they care for each other. They are hoboes but don't let that fool you, they are very well-mannered.
- CLIMAX
- Pop and Cal are on a box car when Pop tells Cal that he is Creek. Cal is now confused, he gets even more confused when Pop tells him that he is going to Washington to collect his bonus money and Cal will not be going with him. He will be staying at Challagi American Indian Boarding School.
- FALLING ACTION
- I have to get to Pop.
- Cal arrives at Challagi and meets his new friend, Possum. Possum takes Cal to the infirmary. Cal is met by a mean nurse who checks him into Challagi. He gets his hair shaved, they ask him about a sensitive topic, and it is just an all-around terrible experience.
- RESOLUTION
- Pop I have missed you so much! These are all the letters I wrote to you during my time at Challagi.
- Possum, Deacon, and Little Coon prepare a sweat lodge. This is a way to relax and cleanse your words and body. They finish and Cal realizes that he can tell his friends at Challagi anything. He then has a vision that tells him to go to where Pop is.
- The sweat is a way to cleanse your words and body, as well as a method to relax.
- With the motivation of his vision he goes to the stable and gets Dakota. They ride 7 miles to the train station so Cal can catch a train to go to Pop.
- Cal gets to Washington and he finally gets to reunite with Pop, Cal gives all the letters to Pop and he reads them in a heart beat. The camp starts to get attacked and they have to surrender. Pop and Cal hop on a train in Maryland and head west. They are talking and they both acknowledge that the best place for Cal to stay is Challagi while Pop fights for his bonus money.
