- The British sought for land in India up until the 1850s. The British successfully took land from India and claimed it as their own.
- 1850: The British ruled most of India. Many Indians thought the British were attempting to convert them to Christianity.
- This is too far.We need retaliate
- The Indians faced racism from the British.
- Rumors spread that the new rifle cartridges that the British manufactured used animal fats to grease the bullets. To open the cartridges, one had to rip the paper with their mouth, getting the animal fats in one's mouth. This caused mass outrage because it's against both Islam and Hinduism.
- Because the Indians felt this violated their beliefs, they decided to do something to counter what the British had done. They decided to employ a mutiny against the British colonists.
- Despite the widespread rebellion against the racist manufacturing within the Indian state, the sepoys were ultimately unsuccessful in their efforts.
