Texte du Storyboard

  • The golden days of late October fade As bleak November’s iron skies descend
  • This line sets the scene for the poem. It states how the month is changing from golden skies to gloomy cold days. This line helps build the theme of the poem by seeing the season change in a negative light, which is later seen with a different mindset.
  • When tresses, like the leaden clouds, have grayed We see our fruitful time's approaching end
  • This line compares the season change to someone's hair turning gray. It is an important line as it brings in a bigger issue than just the month changing, it's about getting older. This helps build into the theme as it is first seen as once your hair turns gray your life is nearly over. However the ending of the poem has a different approach to that idea.
  • A poetic device used in this poem is assonance. With words like fade and grayed, and descend and end. This helps grab the readers attention and emphasize the meaning.of the poem. These rhymes help show how the seasons are changing comparing it to how life is as well.
  • The Turn in the poem happens in line 11. Before this line the poem has a negative tone of how they don't like the season to change or change in life with getting older. However, with this line starting with, "Despite the wistful longing we might feel..." it takes the poem to a positive side of things. It addresses change in season and age with a bright side that change is inevitable and to enjoy the now.
  • This line truly brings in the theme of the poem. The line means summer will be over and time will move on. In a deeper meaning it means all things come to an end at some point, so live in the moment. Don't worry about the things you can't control.
  • All times of summer fade, as fade they must.
  • Embrace what time remains; it will not last. Your autumn, too, will soon be ancient past.
  • The theme of the poem is nothing in life last forever, so enjoy the moments you do have.
  • This last line of the poem wraps up the full meaning of the poem. The line means embrace the time you have, as it will move on. In fuller depth time passing and how it affects us is out of our control, and their is nothing you can do to change it. So, it takes a positive mindset to this idea to not take for granted the time you do have and take in the change when it comes.
