  • She was born into a petty official's family and she had no dowry in her possession. Because she has no dowry, she married a minor civil servant

  • Her husband gave her an invitation to an evening reception at the Ministry of Education, but she has nothing proper to wear. He gives her 400 Francs to be a nice evening dress and suggests that she goes to her friend to borrow a article of jewelry.

  • Madame Loisel asked Madame Forestier if she could borrow a piece of jewelry.

  • You remember the diamond necklace you lent me? Well it took me 10 years to pay for it.
  • They go to the ball and Madame Loisel was the talk of the ball.
  • Madame Loisel and her husband get home and she finds out that she has lost the Necklace and they ask around for loans to pay for a new one.
