British Reaction

After the failure of the Stamp Act, a representative of the parliament, Charles Townshend, advised King George the Third to import taxes on the goods imported from Great Britain to the Colonies. This was known as the Townshend Act.

The King was happy with the proposal and hoped this would work, and there would be less violence caused.

The colonists reacted exactly the opposite of how Britain expected them to. The colonists were even angrier at a new tax being added. Especially on the things they needed the most.

Colonists began boycotting all British Goods. During this, a new group known as Daughters of Liberty was formed. As a response to unfair taxation. They organized the production of homespun clothing. They also came up with substitutes for things being boycotted like raspberry leaves for tea substitutes.

This act only helped in increasing the anger inside the colonists. They began to unite and started thinking about their independence

Finally, King George the III agreed to repeal the taxes. But he only agreed to remove the taxes on all items, but the tea that went from Britain.

What will we do now? We still need money to pay off our taxes!

Your Highness. we could set a tax where the colonists would have to pay money for all of the goods imported from Great Britain to the Colonies. Like glass, wool, lead, etc.

That's a great idea! Because of this amazing idea, I will name this tax after your name!

We don't need the British to give us supplies, when we can make them ourselves.

We agree!

Our majesty has demanded you pay a new tax. This will be on any exported goods from Britain.

Another tax!?

Boo!!

Weren't the past taxes enough?

Your highness, this act was also a fail. Our sales have decrease more then ever.
