Texte du Storyboard

  • Economical Impact
  • The warfare of the Rebellion had destroyed the capital and infrastructure of the Haiti economy.
  • Haiti had also now lacked trade relations with other nations. As well as domestic and foreign investment.
  • As Haiti was in debt to France due to separation payments, they could not rebuild their economy as strong as Saint Domingue once was.
  • Political Impact
  • Although now seen as a hero, Dessalines was now trying to control Haiti as the 'Governor for Life', later changed to 'Emperor for Life".
  • As he seemed to only want control just like the French, he was put down on August 17th, 1806 by his own lieutenants. These lieutenants believed that this would lead to the growing political instability of the new government.
  • Social Impact
  • Dessalines orders the remaining of the French to be slaughtered, promising protection to the Haitians, or because he was afraid that they would take his title away.
  • Although their threats had been removed, Haiti still had to recover. They were quite literally left in pieces. It took a while to get socially back up there.
  • Not only were plantations destroyed but the whole agricultural system was corrupt as people were unwilling to work and wanted to own land.
