- Luther-21, struck by lighting, made promise to be monk, father furious.

- Getting these people to heaven

- Luther did everything to be a monk, followed directions, still felt lost and sinful.

- Luther thought he understood when he once again read "The just shall live by faith", salvation is done though faith in God, not by actions.

- Luther united with the people and spoke out against Tetzel, whom was selling indulgences to remodel the church. Indulgences, or pardons that release the buyer from time in Purgatory. Tetzel twisted it making it seem that indulgences were the only way to get into heaven.
- Luther spoke up and wrote 95 these (formal statements) attacking pardon-merchants. He posted his these on the door of the castle church. He challenged scholars, somebody excited about all this printed his theses, after a while Luther's name was known in Germany. The reformation had begun.
