Socrate's Art and the Delphic Oracle:Up to this point, Socrates has informed the audience about the nature of the charges and how they are false. He now aims to bolster his argument with a defense of his profession as a philosopher and a personal anecdote involving the Oracle at Delphi
Some of you might ask, what is your profession Socrates? I am neither a sophist nor a physicalist as some of you would imply. My purpose is to spread wisdom and I'll prove it with a story.
Socrates recounts how one of his now-deceased friends, Chairephon visited the Oracle and asked her a question regarding Socrates.
So um yeah she basically said I'm the best
He asked her if there was any man wiser than I and she said...
Nope
So like any sensible person would have done, I embarked on a quest to find someone who was truly wiser than I
Socrates journeyed far and wide to visit the self-proclaimed wise men, even going so far as to visit the expert craftsmen of Athens, but during his journey he could only conclude one thing:
All these plebs think they know more than they actually know
My journey to find a man wiser than I continues to this day, as I have yet to meet someone who doesn't think they know everything
And his journey would continue in the after-life, as he was sentenced to a slow painful death via hemlock
