- After WWII, the Allies agreed on dividing Korea into two separate territories, North and South. / Both sides wanted to unite, but in June 1950, the North had stormed into the South attempting to force the unity. The United States was in support of South Korea, now worried of the spreading of communism.

- The U.S. blocked China from the United Nations, which caused the Soviet Union to leave in protest. The U.S. there didn't declare war but they were asked to choose a commander of the U.N. forces, in which they chose Gen. Douglas MacArthur. 80% of the troops serving in Korea had been from the U.S.

- For the next 2 years, the war went back & forth, there was a strong push from North Korea, then from South Korea, and from the North again with help from China / Gen. Douglas MacArthur wouldn't listen to the Chinese to stop advancing towards the North & was also in support of the use of nuclear weaponry. Truman fired him for insubordination and he was replaced by Gen. Omar Bradley.

- A stalemate developed over the last 2 years, so Eisenhower signed a truce leaving Korea divided. / 54,000 people had died and 103,000 people had been wounded in result of the war / it was the first war where both blacks and whites had fought together in battle.

- In memory of the 54,000 among the dead. In honor of those 103,000 whom have been wounded.
- The Korean War also led to a huge increase in spending for the military and it also helped to shape America's future in Asia.
